Pilgrimages

Beginning in 2000 Pilgrimage to Uluru began drawing thousands of young people on to new journeys. Since then Fusion has established cultural exchanges and experiences through pilgraimges and Open Crowd Festivals in many countries around the world including: Greece, Albania, Germany, China, Jamaica, South Africa, with more to come!

The Pilgrimage to Canberra is over for 2010, however we would love to share some of the stories and responses from participants!

Here are some from young people when asked what the most important lesson they learnt was:

"I have more respect for the people who went to war for us"

"These are the years I can make a difference. So many young people have."

"Even when how one day we can have everything and then we can loose it that easily."

This years Pilgrimage was the third since it's inception in 2008 on the anniversary of the opening of Parliament House. We saw 160 pilgrims take part, and from all accounts it was a great success.

An Australian “Schools in Harmony” program which begins on Easter Sunday and lasts for 10 – 14 days. It takes young people on a journey of reflection to their nation’s heart. Drawn from across the nation, they participate in a daily routine of reflection, discussion and creative activity as they journey to Uluru.

A Pilgrim’s Journal is provided to assist them in reflecting about their lives and relationships with friends, neighbours, families and between cultures. A map of Aboriginal Australia identifies the hundreds of nations that existed before settlement, whose boundaries are crossed every day. At Uluru a team guides groups and facilitates cultural exchange. There is a Saturday night concert which involves indigenous people, the local schools and the travellers.
